ANTONIE RETIRES FROM RACING

October 2009

We never thought we would see the day that Antonie Tallie retires, but unfortunately, that day has indeed come. Antonie will not be racing this season and has retired indefinitely. The legendary midget and all accessories have been sold or donated to other drivers.

Antonie would like to thank everyone who supported him over the years and made racing so much more exciting and enjoyable. Antonie is sad that his racing days are over for now but is looking forward to spending more time with his family and on his hobbies.

Antonie joins the rest of the spectators at Worcester and gets to enjoy a braai and some racing action from the other side of the fence!

Update on status of midget - May 2009

Antonie is hard at work developing a new body for his midget. He is busy moulding brand new panels out of fibreglass from scratch. Each panel has to be first moulded, then sanded - by hand - filled in with putty to achieve a smooth surface and then, resanded. Once the sanding is complete the panel can be trimmed to fit, and coated with a clear laquer for a smooth shine. Then its ready to be painted. A sneak peek into the workshop reveals that the car will stay with the black and yellow colours for next season, but if we know Antonie, just when we think we have him figured out - he goes and changes everything up!

Tygerberg Raceway Nationals

If you were at Tygerberg on Saturday, you were witness to the ultimate test of preparation and safety equipment.

Antonie went into a four wheel slide a few laps into the first race while making a pass on Arthur Schaffer. His wheels caught the rough and sent his car full tilt into the wall!

It was a devestating crash for the car, but Antonie walked away without so much as a scratch on him! In fact, he was so cool his pulse was a mere 69 bpm when the paramedics took it straight after the incident.

Unfortunately the car will not be able to fixed, and Antonie will be hanging up his helmet for the rest of the season!

Antonie would like to thank his friends, family and all his fans for their continued support throughout this season!

....In the meantime, Antonie has already begun stripping the car so we'll keep the site updated with that progress and more!

Antonie would also like to thank everyone for their calls and messages, it means a lot to him!

11 March 2009...

Antonie is not one to rest on his laurels....

The car has totally been stripped, each part inspected and cleaned and stored, ready for re-assembly.

After a full assesment of the damage, the only thing NOT bent is the chassis. Everything else from back to front is damaged and will have to be replaced, or rebuilt.
